Next month, the Light Rail Transit (LRT)-1, LRT-2 and the Metro Rail Transit (MRT)-3 will have their own Passenger Information System similar to Singapore, Hong Kong and Tokyo, with over 1,000 TUBE screens mounted in each train.
TUBE, a real time, GPS-triggered system patented in the country, is a joint venture of PHAR Philippines, Inc. and Trackmate Business Solutions, Inc.
It lets riders know what station is the next stop, when there is an emergency, or if there is any disruption to the train service.
The system comes equipped with CCTV which will help train operators with real time congestion information, as well as incident reporting.
“This new world-class technology keeps commuters abreast with real-time information and other vital train service information apart from keeping them entertained,” reiterated LRT Authority (LRTA) Administrator Reynaldo Berroya.
Aside from providing basic information, TUBE also delivers news, weather reminders, traffic updates and exclusive short form videos to commuters.
TUBE is currently installed on all LRT-2 trains.
By early April it will be fully operational on all MRT-3 trains, and by July 2019 TUBE will be installed on the LRT-1 line as well.
