Several key people from the public sector also graced the event to share their thoughts on the impact and contribution of rural banks in the overall growth of the Philippines, and the key cities where these banks operate in.

The conference started with Davao City Mayor Hon. Sara Duterte welcoming the attendees during breakfast. Department of Finance Secretary Hon. Carlos Dominguez, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Governor Hon. Nestor Espenilla Jr. and Department of Agriculture Secretary Hon. Emmanuel Pinol also took the stage to impart key insights about the industry.

The private sector was also well-represented with key sponsors like Landbank, Country Bankers Insurance Group, and cloud technology provider, Oradian, who took the stage to give a glimpse of what could be a game-changer in the rural banking industry. Through a more secure and efficient system via cloud technology, the industry can adopt a more consumer-friendly transaction process while easing internal operations.

“The rural banking landscape is vastly changing all over the world. The use of cloud technology in the banking industry is advent in different continents, so we would like to see this grow in Asia, with Philippines as the pioneer country in emerging markets to enter this transition. It is an investment that is integral to any institution’s growth given that everything is digital now”, said Matija Karaula, Oradian’s Managing Director for Asia.
