Silicon Valley IT experts will gather here this week to discuss about the challenges and opportunities of businesses presented by artificial intelligence (AI).
Secretary Eliseo M. Rio Jr. of the Department of Information and Technology leads the guest of speakers with IT experts from Silicon Valley, California headed by Wave Computing CEO Derek Meyer, Chief Data Scientist Dr. Jin Kim and SVP Lee Flanagin to talk on the topic “Artificial Intelligence: Opportunities and Challenges for Philippine Business”.
They will be joined by Arthur Tan, vice-chairman and CEO of Integrated Micro-Electronics, Inc.; George Yang, founder and CEO of AI-Pros and Dr. Ma. Mercedes Rodrigo, professor of Ateneo de Manila and member of the AI Board of Innovation Council- DOST.
The forum is the second series of the Chamber Connects Open Discourse organized by the Chamber of Commerce of the Philippine Islands to be held on Wednesday in Ortigas.
The Chamber President, Jose Luis Yulo, Jr. said the holding of the forum is to “promote Philippine business excellence under the Chamber’s Five Pillars slogan “History Builds the Future: Vision 2030.”
Yulo added, “the Chamber is undertaking this initiative since the application on AI has accelerated as futuristics are working double time, sharing information in the cloud about AI projects.”
With the development of artificial intelligence and its impact on Philippine business, concerns have been raised, specifically on BPO (Business Process Outsourcing) and possible job losses due to automation.
was debunked by technology entrepreneur Diosdado Banatao based in Silicon Valley who believes “Filipinos can excel in the era of artificial intelligence without displacing the business of professional outsourcing.”
Banatao who helped found two AI companies and is supporting the training of 20 AI engineers in the country added, “BPO can even triple its revenue and in the process uplift the Philippine economy.”
Other concerns like- are we ready to be controlled by machines or can we co-exist with them in the process? What are the extents and limits of its usage are some of the questions that will be properly addressed during the forum.
